Chuck Witmer of SCALEhouse Designrecently won the first prize in the international categoryof theInternational Shed of the Year 2009 competition.Winning design in the international category of the International Shed of the Year Awards: The Shed in Silver Spring, MD by SCALEhouse Design “The need for a woodshop/painting studio was unavoidable once we bought our own house and our family began to grow,” says Witmer about his winning shed in Silver Spring, Maryland. “I was building furniture out of our finished basement until we decided that the saw dust in the ducts was not the best for our lungs. My wife was painting out of the 3rd bedroom until we had our first born Eli which required the need for her space to become a guest room. I designed this accessory building to achieve the space necessary for the continued success of my wife’s painting career and the passion to design/build and make furniture.”Further finalists in the international category were The Pip by Laura (Northland, New Zealand), Eco-Shed by James Glave (Bowen Island, British Columbia, Canada), Hobbit Hole by R Estelle (Kenai, Alaska, US), Inspiration House by Terry Rathje (Fairfield, Iowa, US), and The Church of Gardening by Maundy Mitchell (White Mountains, New Hampshire, US).Images: SCALEhouse Design
Interior Architecture discipline is acknowledged as new approach to addressing unhealthy living ennvironment; its constantly evolving response to meet human physical and psychological needs. As such, the speed and flexibility in human response demand an equally adaptable set of analytical tools, design approaches and production methods.
Also, Interior Architect could redefined as a space Psychologist. I truly believes that Interior Architecture has the power to transform, to heal,to teach, to inspire and to unite. The design of
interior spaces in a building may depend on the architectural aspect and its having a powerful impact on the level of well being, social
interaction and collaboration within a community of living environment. Unconsciously, we are also in helping to shape one's behavior, minds and
perceptions bringing out new connections and contrasts; organising and re-organising experience and thus making and re-making our world to build better future integrated with sustainable living, play and working environment.
