SCALEhouse Design Wins the International Shed of the Year Award

Chuck Witmer of SCALEhouse Design recently won the first prize in the international category of the International Shed of the Year 2009 competition.Winning design in the international category of the International Shed of the Year Awards: The Shed in Silver Spring, MD by SCALEhouse Design
“The need for a woodshop/painting studio was unavoidable once we bought our own house and our family began to grow,” says Witmer about his winning shed in Silver Spring, Maryland. “I was building furniture out of our finished basement until we decided that the saw dust in the ducts was not the best for our lungs. My wife was painting out of the 3rd bedroom until we had our first born Eli which required the need for her space to become a guest room. I designed this accessory building to achieve the space necessary for the continued success of my wife’s painting career and the passion to design/build and make furniture.”
Further finalists in the international category were The Pip by Laura (Northland, New Zealand), Eco-Shed by James Glave (Bowen Island, British Columbia, Canada), Hobbit Hole by R Estelle (Kenai, Alaska, US), Inspiration House by Terry Rathje (Fairfield, Iowa, US), and The Church of Gardening by Maundy Mitchell (White Mountains, New Hampshire, US).
